Dale Carnegie, in his best seller, How to Win Friends and Influence People, taught me that one’s own name is such a special thing. He used it as a tool in his course. In fact he said “Remember that a man’s name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”
I have always used this tool, but not as a tool. I just genuinely like people and want to know them and have found that when you call someone by name they will respond more favorably.
